This thermal village, with an area of 294 km\u00b2, borders the municipalities of Xermade, Vilalba, Begonte, Friol (belonging to the province of Lugo); Sobrado, Curtis-Teixeiro, Aranga, and Monfero (from the province of A Coru\u00f1a).<\/p>\n
The municipality has more than 5,000 inhabitants and is divided into 18 parishes that possess a great Historical-Cultural Heritage.<\/p>\n
Guitiriz, the municipality of water and stone, is also considered a thermal village. The springs of Pardi\u00f1as, Guitiriz, and Parga are famous for their medicinal waters; good for liver diseases, kidneys, skin infections, and digestive disorders. Many people visit our town to enjoy them and the natural environment in which they are located.<\/p>\n

[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner el_class=”col-boxed” width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]Guitiriz was founded in the 6th century by the Suevic king Witerico, who baptized the town with his own name.<\/p>\n
In the year 1822<\/strong>, Galicia was divided into 4 provinces, and within the Judicial District of Vilalba and as part of the province of Lugo, the municipalities of Parga and Lagostelle<\/strong> were included.<\/p>\n A few years later, a Royal Decree of July 23, 1835, established new municipalities and distributed the parishes of each of them. The municipalities of Parga and Guitiriz were left with 12: Bec\u00edn, Lagostelle, Mariz, As Negradas, Santa Cruz, Santo Estevo, Santa Leocaia, San Salvador, Roca, Trasparga, O Vilar, and Os Vilares.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner el_class=”col-boxed” width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n Belonging to the Municipality of Baamonde<\/strong> were the parishes of P\u00edgara, Sambreixo, and Pedrafita. Buriz and Labrada, part of the former province of Betanzos<\/strong>, were assigned to Vilalba.<\/p>\n In 1840<\/strong>, part of the municipalities of Galicia were suppressed, and Parga and Guitiriz were unified into one, the Municipality of Trasparga<\/strong>, while the Municipality of Baamonde<\/strong> disappeared. All current parishes were assigned to this new Municipality, except for Santa Mari\u00f1a, which was created in the late 19th century.<\/p>\n In 1945<\/strong>, with its headquarters already in the present town, the municipality was renamed Guitiriz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
