SITUATION<\/h2>\n

[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner el_class=”col-boxed” width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]The City Council of Guitiriz belongs to Lugo and the region of Terra Ch\u00e1. This thermal town, 249km long, delimits with the municipalities of Xermade, Vilalba, Begonte, Friol (Lugo) and Sobrado, Curtis-Teixeiro, Aranga and Monfero (A Coru\u00f1a).<\/p>\n

Guitiriz has more than 5.000 inhabitants and is divided into 18 parishes with a great Hitorical- Cultural Heritage.<\/p>\n

Guitiriz, the land of water and stone, is also considered a thermal town. The fountains of Pardi\u00f1as, Guitiriz and Parga are famous for their medicinal waters; good for liver aliments, kidneys, skin infections and digestive disorders. Many people visit our town to enjoy them and the natural environment in which they\u00b4re located.<\/p>\n

OUR HISTORY<\/h2>\n

[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner el_class=”col-boxed” width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]Guitiriz was founded in the VI century, by the Swabian king Witerico; who baptises the town with his own name.<\/p>\n

In 1822<\/strong>, Galicia was divided into 4 provinces and within the Judicial Party of Vilalba and as part of the province of Lugo, the municipalities of Parga and Lagostelle<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A few years later, a Royal Decree of July 23, 1835, established new municipalities and divided each of their parishes. The municipalities of Parga and Guitiriz were left with 12: Bec\u00edn, Lagostelle, Mariz, As Negradas, Santa Cruz, Santo Estevo, Santa Leocaia, San Salvador, Roca, Trasparga, O Vilar, and Os Vilares.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner el_class=”col-boxed” width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]Belonging to the Baamonde City Council<\/strong> were the parishes of P\u00edgara, Sambreixo and Pedrafita. O Buriz and Labrada, part of the old province of Betanzos, were awarded to Vilalba.<\/p>\n

In 1840<\/strong> part of the municipalities of Galicia were abolished, and Parga and Guitiriz were unified into themselves, the Trasparga City Council<\/strong>, while the Baamonde City Council disappeared. This new City Council was assigned all the current parishes, except for Santa Mari\u00f1a, which was created at the end of the 19th<\/sup> century.<\/p>\n

In 1945<\/strong>, already based in the current town, the town hall was renamed Guitiriz<\/strong>.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row foundry_background_style=”bg-secondary” foundry_padding=”pt64 pb64″ el_class=”hidden”][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Adem\u00e1is…<\/h3>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_toggle title=”Culturas que deixaron pegada en Guitiriz”]Moitos son os recunchos desta vila que deixan constancia de que os suevos estiveron por aqu\u00ed, como son Mariz, Buriz, Amariz\u2026. A terminaci\u00f3n \u201ciz\u201d \u00e9 caracter\u00edstica de este pobo. Pero, non foron os \u00fanicos, varias poboaci\u00f3ns deixaron a s\u00faa pegada en Guitiriz:<\/p>\n

O \u201cXacemento da Pena Xiboi\u201d, por exemplo, de influencia epipaleol\u00edtica<\/strong> e datada do ano 5.000 A.C, \u00e9 unha enorme rocha que serviu como abrigo natural do primeiros poboadores destas terras. En 1990 foi declarado Ben de Interese Cultural pola Xunta de Galicia e os restos arqueol\u00f3xicos, atopados en 1994 nesta rocha, est\u00e1n expostos actualmente no Museo\u00a0de Viladonga en Castro de Rei<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A cultura megal\u00edtica<\/strong> deixou pegada con monumentos f\u00fanebres como as m\u00e1moas, medorras ou modias. As\u00ed mesmo, a cultura castrexa<\/strong> deixou unha forte impronta no noso pobo. Os nosos castros te\u00f1en forma circular ou oval e, en moitos casos, te\u00f1en antecastros con funci\u00f3n defensiva e de cobixo para os animais.<\/p>\n

Sen embargo, a presenza m\u00e1is significativa, e tam\u00e9n m\u00e1is presente no entorno, \u00e9 a dos Romanos<\/strong>. Estas terras foron lugar de paso da v\u00eda romana que un\u00eda Lucus Augusti con Brigantia.[\/vc_toggle][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_toggle title=”Influencias Monarcais”]Na Idade Media<\/strong> chegan as influencias Monarcais, quedando as distintas terras de Guitiriz supeditadas \u00f3s mosteiros, as\u00ed Mariz, Negradas, Sambreixo e Santa Leocadia pertenc\u00edan \u00f3 Mosteiro de Sobrado<\/strong> e as parroquias de Labrada, Buriz e Os Vilares \u00f3 Mosteiro de Monfero<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

S\u00e1bese que no s\u00e9culo XIX<\/strong> o cami\u00f1o que se dirix\u00eda desde Guitiriz cara a Curtis pod\u00eda ser obxectivo de bandidos ou asaltadores, por iso, no reinado de Isabel II (1833-1868) constru\u00eduse na vila guitiricense un edificio para os viaxeiros puideran facer noite.
